Telkom Knockout Cup Final, Preview

The Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium is the venue for the Telkom Cup Knockout Cup Final with Baroka FC in action against Soweto Giants, Orlando Pirates.  We take a look at the game from a betting angle.

Pirates are currently top of the PSL log although the chasing pack have games in hand.  They are undefeated in their last 10 matches in the League and in the Telkom Cup, they beat Chippa United at home in the last 16 before requiring extra time to see off AmaZulu on the road and their finest performance was the 2-1 win over Kaizer Chiefs in the semi-finals.

Baroka have reached the final with three home victories over Arrows, Sundowns and Wits and they have yet to concede a goal in the tournament.  They are battling a bit in the PSL where they sit 14th although they did win their last game away at Golden Arrows.

Pirates haven’t won this competition since 2011 although they were beaten finalists in 2013 and this is Baroka’s first appearance in the final.  Somewhat surprisingly the finals have tended to be high scoring affairs with 4 of the last 5 delivering over 2.5 goals

Orlando Pirates 7/10

Draw 26/10

Baroka 4/1

Suggested bet:  Pirates win at 7/10.

Pirates for my money are the best team in South Africa at the moment, while Baroka have performed admirably in this tournament so far, I think they are going to find Pirates too good for them on the night.
