The DP World Championship 2018, Outright Preview

The Earth Course at the Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai is the venue for the season ending DP World Championship which is the final event of the Rolex Series.

Francesco Molinari and Tommy Fleetwood will do battle for the Race to Dubai crown and it is Molinari who is in pole position heading into the final Tournament of the series.

The Earth Course is a par 72 layout that favours the long hitters with very generous fairways and accuracy off the tee is not that important.  With the odd exception, winners tend to come from the group of favourites and are generally in good form heading into the event.

Rory McIlroy is the favourite at 17/2 despite a disappointing effort at the Nedbank Challenge last week, Sergio Garcia at 12/1 is second in the betting, the defending champion Jon Rahm is the same price.

2013 – Henrik Stenson -25

Rory Mcilroy 17/2

Sergio Garcia 12/1

Jon Rahm 12/1

Tommy Fleetwood 14/1

Xander Schauffele 18/1

Tyrrell Hatton 18/1

Li Haotong 20/1

22/1 and better the balance, prices correct at the time of posting but are subject to change.

Li Haotong each way at 20/1

Li makes his third appearance in this event having finished 30th two years back and in the top 15 last year.  He has been in superb form in recent weeks with an 11th place finish his worst in 5 starts and last week he finished strongly for a top 5 at Sun City.

Matt Wallace each way at 45/1

Wallace delivered place returns for me at Sun City and I am prepared to give him another chance as he has been a regular winner on Tour and is becoming more consistent.  He makes his debut at this course but his game should be well suited.

Patrick Reed each way at 30/1

The American has been lightly raced since the Ryder Cup but has looked in decent form when he has played and he has a couple of top 10 finishes to his credit here.

Aaron Rai each way at 200/1

A speculative play on a man who impressed last week with a top 10 finish at the Nedbank Challenge.
