The European Tour moves to Australia this week for the inaugural sanctioning of the ISPS Handa Vic Open.
This event will be played over 2 courses namely, the Beach Course and the Creek Course both playing to par 72. In a very unique move both a ladies and a men’s event will be played at the same time although it is not to be confused as them playing against each other as it is 2 separate events.
Players will tee up at both the Beach and Creek courses on the first 2 days and it will be the Beach course which will be used over the weekend. Links golfers should be favoured and there is every chance that wind will be a factor.
Punters should note that there are 2 cuts this week, one taking place after 54 holes and the other one in the more traditional halfway spot.
It is not the strongest field by European Tour standards and while I will include a couple from the top of the betting boards I will be looking for long shot winner this week.
Jason Scrivener 12/1
Ryan Fox 14/1
Lucas Herbert 16/1
Jazz Janewattananond 20/1
Aaron Rai 22/1
Justin Harding 25/1
28/1 and better the balance, odds correct at time of writing but subject to change
Aaron Rai each way at 22/1
Rai has been playing against much stronger company and although he hasn’t challenged the top of the leader boards, he has been making plenty of cuts. It wasn’t that long ago that he won in Hong Kong and he should enjoy these courses.
Justin Harding each way at 25/1
Justin Harding has some very good recent form, finishing in the top 15 in both his last 2 events against much deeper fields. He has played well on links courses before and in this field can go close.
Ashley Chesters each way at 75/1
Chesters is a good exponent of links golf and while he hasn’t been in the best of form, he will welcome the drop in class.
Paul Dunne each way at 50/1
Dunne hasn’t been in the best of form this year but it wasn’t that long ago that he was placing on a regular basis and it would not surprise me to see him bouncing back to form in this event.
