The World Cup of Golf 2018, Outright Preview

200

The Metropolitan Golf Club in South Oakleigh, Victoria, Australia plays host to 2018 World Cup of Golf and we take a look at the event and suggest a couple of bets.

The World Cup of Golf has been played for over 60 years although it does sometimes fail to attract the top players.  28 countries will take to the first tee in teams of 2 and will compete to over 4 rounds of stroke play.  The 1st and 3rd rounds will be four-balls and the 2nd and 4th rounds will be foursomes when the players hit alternate shots.

The home team, Australia, are represented by Marc Leishman and Cameron Smith and they are the market leaders at 4/1 ahead of England 7/1 (Hatton and Poulter) and the USA 17/2 (Stanley and Kuchar).  South Africa are represented by Frittelli and Van Rooyen and are 20/1 in the betting.

The Metropolitan is a par 72 layout which has hosted many top tournaments over the years.  The weather is expected to be poor with plenty of rain about.

Selections:

China each way at 16/1

China are represented by Hao Tong Li ranked 40 in the world and Li is in excellent form.  His partner is Wu Ashun well down in the rankings at 177, he is a talented golfer and the fact that Li chose him as a partner suggests he will be up for this.

South Africa each way at 20/1*

South Africa have a proud record in this event having won 5 times.  Frittelli and Van Rooyen are both ranked outside the top 50 in the World Rankings but both have had good years and Frittelli in particular has looked to becoming to hand nicely over recent weeks.

Mexico each way at 33/1

Abraham Ancer won in Australia last week and while I don’t know much about his partner Roberto Diaz he has had some reasonable form on the Web.com Tour.
