Tour de France 2018 Stage 12 Preview


Stage 12 of Tour de France takes place on Thursday, it’s the final day in the Alps, the stage finishes on top of the mighty Alpe de Huez and Team Sky have taken control of the General Classification.

Race Update:

Stage 11 saw a major shake up in the GC with Geraint Thomas winning the stage ahead of Dumoulin and Froome.

Thomas is leader with 1:25 on Froome but 2:23 cover the top 5 with Dumoulin, Nibali and Roglic the current top 5.

The King of the Mountains competition sees Alaphilippe lead the way with 61 points with Serge Pauwels second on 49 and Barguil third on 40.

Movistar lead the Team Classification, 1:37 seconds up on Bahrain Merida.

The Points Classification is still led by Peter Sagan who has 339 with Gaviria next best on 218.

There are 3 HC climbs on route on what will be a brutal stage which is 177.5km in length. The first 2 HC climbs are 25.3km and 29km in length and the finish on top of the Alpe du Huez is 13.8km long at an average gradient of 8.1%.

With Froome and Thomas and a strong squad of support climbers Sky will take all the beating . That is as long as the breakaway is reeled in and a speculative play on Daniel Martinez as a potential escapee along with Thomas from the GC is the interest today.
