Tranmere v Tottenham Hotspur, FA Cup 3rd Round Preview

The big boys join the FA Cup this weekend and on Friday night we have Tranmere hosting Tottenham in a David v Goliath clash.

Tranmere are a League 2 side currently sitting 9th and they are undefeated in their last 3 League matches.  They have required replays in both their first and second rounds to reach this match and in Round 1 they drew at home to Oxford before beating them on the road and there was a similar outcome in Round 2 where they drew at home to Southport but won on the road.

Tottenham are 2nd in the EPL (at the time of writing before the Man City v Liverpool match) and had few problems seeing off Cardiff 3-0 away on New Year’s Day.  I have little doubt that there will be plenty of changes in the Tottenham team as the manager looks to give some of his fringe players a run, but Tottenham have a proud FA Cup record and are justifiably heavily favoured to win this game.

These sides have only met once and that was in the 2001/2002 FA Cup where Tottenham won 4-0 at home.

Tranmere 23/2

Draw 11/2

Tottenham Hotspur 2/9

Suggested bet:  Tottenham to win 3-0 at 13/2.

It is not easy finding a betting angle in these one-sided betting heats and I cannot look past a comfortable Spurs win but suspect that Tranmere will offer early resistance and I am taking a speculative stab at the 3-0 final score.
