UEFA Champions League Preview, Wednesday 7 November

Matchday 4 of the UEFA Champions League continues on Wednesday night with Groups E through to H in action.  We suggest a bet in all 8 games.

Benfica v Ajaxclick here to bet

Benfica are currently 3rd in Group E, 4 points behind leaders Ajax and also 4 points behind second placed Bayern Munich.  Benfica’s only home game was a 2-0 defeat to Bayern Munich and Ajax drew with Bayern Munich 1-1 on the road.  Ajax beat Benfica 1-0 at home in Matchday 3 and I think the draw is a big runner here as there doesn’t seem to be much between the teams.

Suggested bet:  The draw at 47/20.

Bayern Munich v AK Athensclick here to bet

Bayern Munich are tied at the top of Group E with Ajax with 7 points from their 3 matches and they should have few problems seeing off AK Athens who have lost all 3 of their games to date, including a 3-0 reverse at Ajax in their only away match.  Bayern Munich won the reverse fixture 2-0 away in Matchday 3.  It is not easy to find a betting angle and I am going to take a speculative stand that we get 4 or 5 goals.

Suggested bet:  Total Goals Aggregated, 4-5 goals at 16/10.

Manchester City v Shakhtar Donetskclick here to bet

Manchester City are top of Group F with 6 points having won their last 2 games on the road including beating Shakhtar Donetsk 3-0 in Matchday 3.  Shakhtar have 2 points from their 3 games and in their only away match drew 2-2 at Lyon.  City are in rampant form and I am looking for another comfortable win.

Suggested bet:  Handicap, Man City (-2) at 17/20.

Lyon v Hoffenheim click here to bet

Lyon are just a point behind Manchester City heading into this fixture and Hoffenheim are 3 points behind them and at the bottom of the table with 2 draws and a loss in their 3 matches.  Lyon were a bit disappointing in their only home start where they drew with Shakhtar Donetsk but I am expecting a win from them as we approach the business end of the group stages.

Suggested bet:  Lyon win at 1/1

CSKA Moscow AS Roma click here to bet

Roma currently sit top of a very competitive Group G, but just 2 points ahead of 3rd place CSKA Moscow.  Roma were too strong for Moscow in Matchday 3, winning 3-0 but Moscow were excellent in their only home game, beating Real Madrid 1-0.  I am going to bet that both teams don’t find the net, a result which would have arrived in 5 of the 6 matches the teams have played in the group stages.

Suggested bet:  Both teams to score, NO, at 21/20.

Viktoria Plzen Real Madridclick here to bet

Real Madrid are 2nd in Group G and they are strong favourites to beat Plzen on the road, a team that has only taken 1 point from their 3 matches.  Real Madrid laboured to beat Plzen 2-1 at home in Matchday 3 and Plzen’s only home game was a 2-2 draw to Moscow.  I think a struggling Real Madrid will focus on defence and I will back them to keep a clean sheet.

Suggested bet:  Real Madrid, Clean Sheet, YES, at 21/20.

Valencia v BSC Young Boys v Valencia click here to bet

Valencia are 3rd in Group H on 2 points from their 3 games with Young Boys currently a point behind them and bottom of the table.  These sides drew 1-1 at Young Boys in Matchday 3 but Valencia will be desperate to win at home, having lost their only other home game 2-0 to Juventus.  I give Valencia a clear edge here and think they can win this comfortably in the end.

Suggested bet:  Handicap, Valencia (-1) at 5/4.

Juventus v Manchester United click here to bet

Juventus are in control of Group H after a 1-0 win over Manchester United away in Matchday 3 and they have a 100% record after 3 games.  Juventus look worthy favourites to me and I am going to back them to win the game with a combined goals total of 2 or more.

Suggested bet:  Matchbet + Totals: Over 1.5 goals and Juventus at 8/10.
