Amanda Nunes and Valentina Shevchenko meet in a rematch for the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Title in the early hours of Sunday morning South African time. The fight takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Nunes, also known as the “Lioness” is 29 years old and the Brazilian is the reigning UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion. She is 5’8” (173m), weighs 135lb (61kg) and has a reach of 69” (175cm). Her fighting styles are Boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo and she began her career in 2008.
She ranks a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and brown belt in Judo and her mixed martial arts record is a total of 18 fights with 14 wins with 10 by knockout, 3 by submission and 1 by decision. She has 4 losses with 2 by knockout, 1 by submission and 1 by decision.
Shevchenko, alias “Bullet” is also 29 years old, was born in the Soviet Union and since 1991 is Kyrgyzstan-Peruvian. She is 5’5” (165m), also weighs 135lb. (61kg) with a reach of 67” (170cm). She is in the Bantamweight (MMA) and Lightweight (kickboxing). Her fighting styles are Kickboxing, Boxing, Muay Thai, Taekwondo and Judo and she has been fighting for 17 years.
She ranks a 2nd Dan belt in Taekwondo, International Master of Sports in Muay Thai, Master of Sports Boxing and Kickboxing, Taekwondo and black belt and Master of Sports Judo. Her professional Boxing record total 2 fights with 2 wins and her kickboxing record totals 61 fights, 58 wins (21 being by KO), 2 losses and 1 draw and finally her Mixed Martial Arts record totals 16 fights, with 14 wins (4 by KO, 6 by submission and 4 by decision) with 2 losses (1 by KO and 1 by decision).
These two met in UFC 196 with Nunes winning on a decision. She started quickly but began to fade and the end of the fight probably came just in time for her. Shevchenko has had subsequent victories over Holly Holm and Julianna Pena. Since her win over Nunes she beat Miesha Tate for the UFC Women’s Bantamweight title and then stunned Ronda Rousey. She has won 5 fights in a row and interestingly started all 5 as underdog.
