Western Province and the Sharks meet to decide the Currie Cup at Newlands in Cape Town on Saturday and we take a look at the game from a betting angle.
Western Province had a superb League campaign, winning all 6 of their games with bonus points but they were given a huge scare by the Blue Bulls last week in Cape Town. They started 18.5 point favourites but after a strong start fell behind and in the end they had to rely on a missed Blue Bulls conversion to ensure extra time. They lifted their game in the extra period and managed to sneak into the final.
The Sharks finished second on the log with their only defeat away at Western Province and they started off very strongly last week at home to the Lions in their semi-final. They led 18-3 at the break but the Lions fought back and heading into the last 10 minutes there were just 2 points between the sides. The Sharks managed to rally and scored a try to eventually win by 9 points, enough for those who too the Sharks -8.5.
WP beat the Sharks 50-28 when they met in Cape Town earlier this season although at one point the Sharks recovered from a slow start to get to within 3 points before the home team pulled away again. These sides met in last year’s final in Durban where the Sharks started favourites but Western Province came from behind to win 33-21.

Western Province 9/20
Western Province -5.5 at 9/10
Sharks +5.5 at 9/10
Suggested bet: Winning Margin, Western Province by under 12.5 points at 16/10.
The Western Province train almost came to a grinding halt last weekend when they were pushed for the first time by the Bulls, it may well be a much needed wake-up call for them but they certainly look to have a tough game ahead against the Sharks. My money is on a home win but by no more than 12 points.
